Course Overview

The WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (WSQ PDECCE) awarded by Asian International College is accredited by the Early Childhood Training Accreditation Committee. The programme is also accredited as the WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education under the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) system.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Provide an overview of the preschool and national education systems in Singapore and their desired outcomes
  2. Analyse their roles in the facilitation and scaffolding of children’s learning in the early years
  3. Understand educational considerations that help various exceptional needs children to be more successful in their learning.
  4. Recognise the importance of including Parents and the Community in the care and education of young children
  5. Recognise the importance of safety, health, hygiene and nutrition aspects in the care and education of young children
Local Students

5 GCE ‘O’ Level credits, including EL1 (min of C6) or equivalent

International Students

Formal education in English

 

  • Completed 10 years of formal education in EL and passed state exam in 5 different subjects including a C6 in GCE ‘O’ level EL1 or acceptable equivalent

 

Formal education not in English

 

  • Obtained a degree with English as the medium of instruction from a state-recognised university and obtained at least 6.5 in IELTS (Academic), OR
  • Obtained a state-recognised PhD / Master’s degree with English as the medium of instruction after completing a state-recognised degree with English as the medium of instruction

Assessments will be based on students’ performance in assignments – in the form of field research, case studies, journal writing, reflection, classroom discussions, presentation and practicum. Some modules are examination-based.

The course is conducted over 30 months of a part-time study or 18 months of full-time study. Students are required to complete 900 classroom hours and 300 practicum hours.
To qualify for certification of the programme and/or progression to the next level of the programme, students must pass all prescribed modules and practicum (where applicable).

  • Students will be notified on the collection of transcripts within 3 months from the last assessment.
  • The certificates will be presented to the student upon graduation annually.

Students who successfully complete all modules will be awarded the WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education by Asian International College which is accredited by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).
